Drawing :: Feb 2025

I had developed the habit of making sketch notes during many Sunday morning sermons at my home church. Recently, my pastor established a space for artists to create, and this drawing became an anchor for my commitment to say “Yes” to myself, to my art, and to my Lord. I will use my gifts and talents more consistently and intentionally.

Of course, fear tried to settle into the mix of things, but the Holy Spirit was very present, encouraging, strengthening, and healing me through it all. You see, just before I was preparing to draw, I had a vision of a small bird perched on a limb above the mouth of a waterfall. It was looking down into the deepness, filled with fear, knowing it had to dive down into the powerful pool of water. Despite my palpable sensations—the multi-sensory input from the envisioned natural environment and the throbbing heartbeat of the little bird—I chose to draw anyway.

The word “protection” resonated with me as I developed the drawing and realized the bird was me, and God is my Protectio (lat.), my protector and shelter. He has indeed sent His Holy Spirit to help me and Light the way.

Later that month, in a dream, I saw an ink pen, pointing to a Greek dictionary. The pen then began to tap on the dictionary to say, “Pay attention to the Greek meaning of protection.” The Greek word is Amunomai (Ah-moo-no-mahee), which means spiritual defense, standing firm in faith, and resisting evil.
